Social media - Its effects and what should be done

in #socialmedia4 years ago

I have spent time thinking this through. Social media as a whole is not only entertaining but it shapes society as a whole. A recent case of this shows how it can be misconstrued to do harm. My proposition is simple. Any trending, viral and popular posts should face classification as this would not be down right censorship.

We can all agree that anything counter to the stability of society would not be acceptable. The classification of these posts would ensure that a representative demographic group decide if the post being classified falls within the boundaries of being nothing more than outrage inducing societal breakdown idea then it should be either taken down or not be easily distributed online unless flagged with peer review on its validity, and facts to show its dangers.

Some would argue this proposition is a form of censorship since it stops the free flow of information. The voices will be loud and the arguments of "Freedom of Speech" will be plenty, however, the way classification would apply towards these posts independent of social media providers like Facebook, YouTube etc. are done by randomly selected groups with no biased agenda since they are a make up of the society they are classifying for.

The counter argument to this would be, without the free flow of information on the internet spells dangers of government control like China the big difference is that these boards are not affiliated to any political parties. I know you are saying but how can you guarantee this will be the case. I say to you, I think right now the free flow of these social media posts do not more than de-stabilise society as opposed to making a positive effect to it.

Nothing is perfect but I think we should consider ideas.
