SRA now officially a 501c4 non-profit

The Socialist Rifle Association is an educational and advocacy organization dedicated to providing working class people the information they need to be effectively armed for self and
community defense, and to help them organize around these needs. Our goal is also to provide an alternative to the predominantly
right wing, white male gun culture which has dominated the community for decades. We seek to provide a safe, inclusive, and left wing platform for talking about gun rights and self defense, free from racist and reactionary prejudices.

The SRA is at a turning point. On October 8th, 2018, the Socialist Rifle Association Inc was formed in Kansas, a not-for-profit corporation that qualifies under the 501c4 provision of tax code and be recognized by the IRS as such. On October 16th, 2018, a merger agreement was unanimously agreed between the SRA Inc of Kansas and the existing SRA LLC of New Mexico. The not-for-profit corporation will replace the previous not-for-profit LLC. The officers of this organization are hard at work making the transition happen on the back-end, but day to day business will continue as usual.

In Madison, members have started the process of meeting and chartering a chapter. Long term, Madison members aim to train our neighbors in self/community defense and provide aid to our marginalised community members.
