Homeless Drunks

in #social6 years ago

In the USA almost every community has a homeless population. These people live without a regular place to sleep and eat. Many beg coins and cash at traffic intersections... a1drjohnthumb.JPG

As a young boy, my parents used such individuals as examples of the dangers of drinking alcoholic beverages. See these people who never planned to end here? They all started with one experimental sip. You can never tell how addictive drinking can be, so never start.

Things like this were a part of my parent’s strategy to raise my brother and I to be solid citizens. They gave me visual images of fear.

I tried to raise my children differently. Both styles were successful. None of us became homeless drunks (yet).

My sobriety was a direct result of my grandmother’s involvement in the Temperance movement. She was active in promoting ‘prohibition’ laws of the 1920’s and 1930’s. My mother was born in 1924 and grew during this social era.

Prohibition failed as a social experiment, but the residual effects can still be observed. How long will it take for society to avoid and eliminate addiction.

Here is today’s beauty.

I do not think we ever will eliminate addiction. I also think in trying to prevent addiction you take peoples freedom away I to me freedom is more important to have then the cost of some addiction.

We have a lot of drug addicts in our country and they usually ask for money and sometimes they would start abusing if people don't give them money.
