The SoCal Steemit Visiting Hour - 02/19

Welcome to the latest edition of the SoCal Steemit Visiting Hour post!
Every tuesday at 8pm @socalsteemit is doing a weekly voice and text chat for the members in our Discord server! Here we'll be giving a short summary of our previous chat and bring up potential topics for the next upcoming chat.

Last Nights Visiting Hour
In the last SoCal Visiting Hour we had @bxlphabet, @fitinfun, @csusbgeochem1, and myself (@derekrichardson) all join in the conversation!
We discussed a ton of stuff and it all went pretty quick. So while I did my best to make some notes, some of it is chicken scratch and some of it is really vague. And I'm sure I totally missed some stuff. But I'll do my best to give you a full recap!!
@csusbgeochem1 brought up our new SoCal Steemit facebook group that we just created! So if you are still on facebook be sure to check us out. It's a great way to keep up to date with what is going on in the SoCal Steemit community. Especially for those of you who are not on Discord.

Next we talked about the upcoming Steemit Meetup on March 4th in Tarzana CA. I think it's gonna be a lot of fun. You can find all the details in this post. So check it out and be sure to RSVP! We also started thinking about a meetup in April. I think it will be in San Diego, but that is still TBD so stay tuned!
Then we talked about some of the new games on the Steem blockchain. @fitinfun talked about @drugwars and she gave us some tips on getting started. @bxlphabet told us about playing @steemmonsters and I talked a bit about playing @magicdice. I think all these games are great for Steem.

After that we discussed all the recent whale fighting going on. I'm sure most of you have seen it. No one is happy to see that garbage. We all shared our stories of dealing with these ridiculous whales (I won't name any names, but you can probably guess them) and we talked about some interesting theories as to why they act in a way that is so bad for Steem. Luckily there are good people doing good things for Steem as well. Like @nathanmars who has started the recent campaign to promote Steem on Twitter. And we hope that with promotions like this we will get more good whales on Steem which will help to spread the power to more people and hopefully help to dilute the power of some of these bad whales who for whatever reasons seem to be determined to destroy Steem.

Next Tuesday
In next Tuesdays SoCal Visiting Hour we'd like to talk about ideas to improve the revenues of SoCal Steemit in order to help keep it sustainable. As well as talk about ways to promote SoCal Steemit. There are a lot of Southern California people on Steemit that are not active with SoCal Steemit and we'd really like to change that. We'd also like to talk about more ideas for future meetups. And we welcome anything else any members would like to bring up and discuss! And I do mean anything. Besides being friendly and courteous there is no rules to what can be discussed. So again, it's tuesday at 8pm in the SoCal Steemit Discord server. If you are not equipped to voice chat or are a bit intimidated to get on a mic, feel free to come listen to the chat and communicate with the group through the corresponding text channel. We'd love to have everyone come join the conversation!!

I would tweet this if you were not so radical!
An idea I have to find more people is to search the tag for california, socal, losangeles sandiego etc - all the cities and invite people to join us. This could be done each morning with a standard comment and an upvote every time you see a good socal post from someone who has not yet joined with us.
I'm not sure of a quick way to find posts for multiple tags. Maybe renowned smart guy @abh12345 has an idea of how we could find those posts and will chime in with it.
Are you loading me with more unpaid work miss @fitinfun? :P
Are you using steempeak.com to tweet? (see my recent post)
Yes I can search the DB for tags, but you can do that too:
https://steemit.com/trending/socal
https://steemit.com/new/losangeles
https://steemit.com/hot/sandiego
etc :)
HAHA! I knew you would come obi wan asher :)
No I do not use steempeak much, but I will take a look at your brilliance now :)
Radical? Is that good or bad? lol. I used to do exactly what you suggest. But I found I was commenting to the same people over and over who seemed to want nothing to do with me. But I should definitely check those tags WAY more often and look for new people that I haven't already reached out to. Thank you for reminding me to do that!!
