Bighorn Encounter
Today, I went on a #Socalsteemit Hiking Meetup for the first time! Led by local expert and 75% Bighorn / 25% humanoid, @derekrichardson on the East Fork of the San Gabriel River.
Bighorn Sheep are notoriously shy, but this pair of rams were on a mission to access the river. The big, muscular alpha ram chuffed and lowered his huge crown of horns menacingly as my dog yipped and postured. That muscular ram has a family to protect!
This encounter with the living subject of many thousands of years old petroglyphs cuts through the ordeal of lugging other people's garbage out of a wilderness area.
The Bighorn has been a figurehead of indigenous people in my locale for more millennia than anyone truly knows for sure.
These powerful beasts are emblems of how Truth is made manifest on this physical plane. Their spiral horns describe the nature of the Universe. They demonstrate the unity of physical and spiritual nourishment and the thriving of we humans who depend upon them.
Om Mani Padme Hum Behold the jewel in the lotus!
How truly magical to encounter!
Awesome photographs and such
a special treat! I see their likenesses
in many rock arts of the ancients.
Big horn and Capricorn, many goat
depictions around the world ❤ 🐱
I love them so much, I couldn't agree more! We were most of the way through, and their appearance took me by very joyous surprise. As it should be. Om. Blessings to you and yours!
I love how the lighter colored one is like "I got your back, bro" in every picture...
He was apprenticing!
Very cool! I saw some a few years back near the white mountains outside Big Pine, Ca.
Very cool! What a gorgeous area to see them in.
I'll never forget the first time I encountered bighorns in the wild. Magic! Thanks for sharing.
I am very glad to bring that memory back, true magic!
