An "Old Fashioned" Northern Plains Blizzard!

in #snow7 years ago (edited)

The wind has calmed down a bit and the snow has tapered off. Now it's time to explore the updated winter landscape! Could this be one of those good-old fashioned winters our elders always talk about? I'll let the pictures do most of the talking..

Before the snow, it looked like the sap would start flowing soon, so we put in the taps, not wanting to miss a day. Now they are mostly buried. A trek through the wood would have been better accomplished with snow-shoes. Snow depth in the woods was anywhere from 1 1/2 to 3 1/3 feet deep.

After a few blisters from shoveling the wind-packed snow and a much appreciated visit from a neighbor with a snowplow, we are all dug out!

The view from our deck..

AND, this was our farm, exactly one year ago (March 5th to be exact). Setting up the trampoline...

and free-ranging the livestock..

Just a little difference, eh?

Gotta love that snow! Did you get the thunder storms the night before too?

No thunderstorms here, although I did see them lurking about when watching the radar. Just a little ice and sleet changing to crusty snow the evening before. Then, about 10-12 inches of snow and boy, did that wind howl strong!! Looking at your post, it looks like you all survived the storm well enough then?

Yes, I think we only had about 6 inches of snow.
Yuck, I hate the strong winds! That was really nice of your neighbor to blow the snow for you!

Good neighbors are priceless!

That is quite a dump of snow! We had lots of snow this winter too but not that much all at once.
