The Future of Steem, & A Return Of Faith in the Platform

in #smt5 years ago

Hi, I'm @jenkinrocket, and I've been on Steem for three years.

During that time there have been many ups, many downs, much drama, and lots of anticipation. But when the disaster happened last year, I feared the worst for the then nascent platform. After a few really, really bad moves from Steemit Inc. and some of its various platforms (that I will not go over here because I and others already have in pretty great detail in the past), I decided to leave Steem and Steemit behind.

But I could never quite bring myself to power down or take my eyes off of the platform completely.

Slowly but surely, Steemit Inc began to rebuild. They brought on new people to right the ship and make them bleed less money. They tripled their efforts to communicate to the community.

Then suddenly, SMT's were back on the table. Communities were within arms reach again. And despite myself, despite everything that's happened, I find the hope rising once again that Steem really might change everything.

By year's end we'll know for sure (probably much sooner). And while I'm cautiously optimistic, one thing's for sure: this is Steem and Steemit's last chance. By January 2020 Steem will either be well on its way to a complete 180, or relegated to the annals of crypto history.

But I'm excited to see the platform deliver on its long time promises either way, and I can scarcely wait for the SMT testnet to launch sometime in the next month or two.
