Their white paper reads well, and indicates a very careful and considered approach toward implementing the technology and improving it as they find flaws. They're already asking for criticism of the white paper, which I recommend anyone interested in emerging cryptocurrency markets take a look at. If nothing else keep your eyes on SMTs in the near future, as this could easily prove to be a game-changer in the long run.

Just a note: SMT is not a token itself. It is the classification of Steemit-based User Created Tokens similar to User Issued Assets (UIA) created on the Bitshares DEX.
so we can't buy it ? we will not have any smt on the market ? for what it's created so ? can you explain with an easy language ?
SMT "Smart Media Tokens" is the general name for any token that you or me will be able to create within Steemit when they release this feature. So we will all have the ability to create our own crytopcurrency tokens that we can use to raise funds (ICO), give out to support projects and communities, or whatever else we need them for.
This is similar to how there are User Issued Assets (UIA) over on the Bitshares exchange that support projects on Steemit now.. Whaleshares, Voiceshare, etc that are given out to people for contributing to community projects or contests, then people can exchange them for upvotes by the person giving out those tokens.
The Smart Media Tokens feature brings that internally to Steemit.
