SkyCoin Introduction To The New Decentralized Internet
For those of you who watch Silicon Valley on HBO, you know that in this season they are working on a decentralized NEW internet. Skycoin is a real life project that's building a decentralized internet.
If you choose to participate in the network on the provider side, and you own the equipment, which is basically a bunch of raspberry pi's connected to an antenna on your roof. You will be able to connect with nearby nodes, to allow the sharing of any extra bandwidth you might want to sell.
Instead of the Proof of Work mining that Bitcoin uses, Skycoin rewards people for running what's called a SkyMiner. If you own a Skyminer, you get rewards for generating bandwidth, and forwarding packets to other participating network nodes. Except you're using hundreds of times less power than it takes to mine Bitcoin.
It will cut out ISP's like Comcast, and provide very fast internet speeds around the world without Satellites, or laying new cables.
Which means no one will be able to steal and sell your data back to advertisers.. No one to lock you into multi year contracts for 100$+ per month for shit internet and make you bundle TV and Internet even if you only want internet..
Here's an interview with the lead developer of the project if you are interested in what might very well end up being "the new internet."
