Week FIVE Sixweekhealth: Sit Up exercise
This type of exercise is mainly for abdominal muscles. It makes your belly flat,firm and attractive.

You lie flat in a supine position with your back facing the ceiling

You put your two hands behind your head and lift your head with your torso up towards your lower half which compresses your abdomen. NB: to achieve a better result, your legs must not be lifted up, somebody can help you in keeping your legs stable if you cant do it on your own.

Once sitted up, your elbows will touch your knees. However, you can decide to touch one knee at ago and this will compress one part of the abdomen at ago which you can do alternatively.

Then you will lie back to your original position and the whole process will begin again.
In addition, you can do another form of situp in which your upper torso lie stable and you raise your legs up without completely allowing them to touch the floor. The picture is below

IMPORTANCE OF SIT UP
It strengthens your core muscles, abdominal muscles know as rectus abdominis and transversalis abdominis
It gives your abdomen, good shape and make you smart
Since it is an exercise, it increases the blood flow in the body and promote body homeostatic mechnisms
It promotes good posture and save the body from tripping off while walking.
Hypothetically, since it makes anterior abdominal wall stronger, it can reduce the risk of acquired hernia.
