in #sirwinchester8 years ago (edited)

Antony Jenkins worked for citibank for 17 years and then used to be CEO of Barclay's, one of the biggest banks in the world, for the 3 years - until being let go in 2015. So he's very experienced in the traditional banking world.

Now, he has announced to join the board of Blockchain.info !

Blockchain.info, the startup based in London, was launched in 2011 and just celebrated surpassing 10 million wallets in November 2016.

Today, they are actually the largest provider of Bitcoin wallets in the world.

Jenkins said that Blockchain could revolutionize the financial system:

“Blockchain technology has the potential to reinvent the way we use money and contribute to a finance system that’s high quality, low cost, secure, fair and transparent. I am proud to join a company playing a pivotal role in ushering in a new era.”

"The ramifications of Blockchain’s technology are potentially enormous. Traditional banks’ record-keeping function would no longer need to exist, because this could be transferred to a digital system."

For Blockchain.info (and for Bitcoin in general) this is a big step towards making cryptocurrency more adaptable to everyone, and they will surely be able to benefit from his years of experience.
In an official Blogpost, Blockchain.info CEO and co-founder Peter Smith that he is "humbled Antony is joining us on our journey, excited to be a part of his, and delighted to share the news with you, our users, who make what we do everyday possible."
He also stated how he first met Jenkins, and how they ended up talking about the implementation of technology and the finance industry.

I wanted to collaborate with Antony for a simple reason: wisdom to navigate crossing the chasm from a simple, burgeoning technology to enabling a whole new financial ecosystem."

Besides Jenkins and Smith himself, the Blockchain.info board now includes President and co-founder Nick Cary, Michael Jackson (fomer COO of Skype) and Jeremy Liew from Lightspeed Venture Partners.

Just 2 months ago, Jenkins had actually announced his own new company - 10X Future Technologies, a fintech firm that offers digital financial services to non-bank financial companies.

Jenkins is convinced that the financial sector will soon face a "disruptive Uber Moment" - a point of rapid change and modernization, which will possibly involve cryptocurrency.

"You’ll see more economic pressure building up in the [banking] industry - There is going to be massive transformation, and it is going to be unpredictable."

Not really. Their main customer target is banks. Basically, the idea is to use private, centralized blockchain tech in private commercial banking:

The 10x Future Technologies platform will give banks better access and insights into customers’ data, enabling them to offer products such as mortgages, credit cards, loans, savings and current accounts that are far better tailored to customers’ specific needs. They will be able to anticipate when a small business owner might need a more flexible line of credit, or what the best financing options are for a couple looking to buy a house.

The above statement, in their press release on halloween, is not really consistent with most bitcoiners idealology.

RS for you.

Part of me loves this and part of me hates this -- the part of me that STRONGLY dislikes everything about mainstream sector banking wants nothing to do with people that come from ties to that system. I have a Blockchain wallet too lol

I found this small area you might want to correct when you said:

financial sector will son face a "disruptive Uber Moment" - a point of rapid change and modernization, which will possibly involve cryptocurrency.

Hmm yes I get your point, but in the end I think the benefits of cryptocurrency still outweigh the negative effects of a mainstream usage.

Thanks for your comment, and yes I have corrected the typo :)

Is it possible to buy a steak in this company? BTW upvoted and resteemed.

I'm not sure actually, please check with https://www.blockchain.com
And thank you for the support!

These are some big news, thanks for sharing! Now I wonder how the future of blockchain.info will develop, and how they can use his experience and knowledge to grow further.

I hope they can use his knowledge to make blockchain and bitcoin more accessible for everyone, but we'll see how this actually turns out

It's going to be great when the big transformation happens.

Definitely! And then we were all an early part of it

Jenkins is convinced that the financial sector will son face a "disruptive Uber Moment" - a point of rapid change and modernization, which will possibly involve cryptocurrency.

I think he is right. Our time is coming:)

Yes, I believe so too!
The current financial system is very outdated, and the crypto revolution will come soon :)

Yes hopefully we won't have to wait too long:)

Another nice piece. Thanks. We've resteemed and published a few. If you haven't checked out our intro yet, please do.

Yes I actually just saw that you changed your name and that you resteemed some of my posts on your blog, that's awesome! I think your initiative is great and will bring lots of good content to steemit, I personally love sharing interesting news.
For how long will you continue featuring regular content from the #news tag before switching to #steemnews?

The sooner the better, really. We want to promote the tag. Of course, if folks don't use it then we won't have a choice but to keep looking through #news. But, ideally, within a few weeks we can focus exclusively on #steemnews.

I see. As soon as the 5 tag issue is resolved, I'll start using it whenever it's possible!

That's great news and will go a long way to adding to the companies credibility and mainstream acceptance. Great read. Thanks.

Thank you, and yes I also believe that this is quite a big change and it could potentially mean a very positive change towards mainstream usage of cryptocurrency!

I think it sends a strong message to the banking industry as well, that one of their own has crossed over to the cryptocurrncy world. I use their wallet and it's very fast and easy to use.

He hasn't really "crossed over." He's deeply in bed with Virgin Mobile and his own 10x project, which is a private, centralized payment system. I think its just as likely that hes getting involved in bitcoin to support that endeavor as it is that hes a convert to the cause.

Also, how much do you really want an ex-barclays CEO involved with crypto. Theyre not very nice, even by traditional banking standards.
