 Why the name SIN?

The name S.I.N. which sounds negative if called out without recognition for the use of full stops is anything but negative. In fact, it is an attempt to try and rebrand something negative into something positive, such that, once the name comes up, we forever remember an
event which not only revolutionized the African continent but the world at large.

A lot of times, I’ve been asked this question: of all the names that come to mind for an event, why the use of S.I.N. and the answer always remains the same, “we are not defined by stereotypes.”

Perhaps the name could have been something like “Nigerian Blockchain Conference” “9ja block crypto conference” or something else, but sentiment aside, the name isn’t necessarily a direct influence on the quality of a product.

People often make the mistake of thinking this conference is solely about the steemit.com website which I must categorically state is not true. The use of the word “steemit” is borne out of love and respect for
the website on the steem blockchain, which is a three second, fee-less DPOS blockchain that has changed the lives of so many people from around the globe.

When trying to pronounce the name, think of it this way: STEEM (as in the chain) it in Nigeria. The event focuses on blockchains in general while paying attention to the steem blockchain, where it all started from. The name of the event is gold to the team and we are gradually but surely achieving our aim.

 What is our mission objective?
As earlier stated, but not limiting it to the above solely, the aim of this event is to revolutionize the blockchain and cryptocurreny space in not just Nigeria and Africa, but the globe by constantly:

  • Enlightening and recruiting people into the space.

  • Discovering new talents and the potential game changers.

  • Breaking social limitations such as ethnicity by not restricting the event to solely one region.

  • Helping to create investors and investment opportunities across the country.

Extensive research puts Nigeria as one of the countries with the highest Smartphone usage in Africa and the world in general, not just that, we are also a fast developing region. An event like this would only
solidify an already established fact and that is one of the things that drive us.

So many people missed the internet boom, we wouldn’t want Africa, especially Nigeria, with the right market to solely remain as a consumer market, and we want to make Africa, especially Nigeria among the “producers.”

 The journey so far

With each passing year, the event, in a constant state of evolution, seeks for better ways to always improve, making its “better” to become best. From the first edition which was held in the South Wstern part of
Nigeria, Osun state to be precise, in the year 2017.

The second edition was taken to the Northern part of Nigeria, the Federal Capital Territory, in the year 2018. As expected, the previous one was not only bigger, it was better and more “event filled.”

By the second edition, an event, previously of just a day (subtracting the days of arrival and departure) had expanded to four days (subtracting the days of
arrival and departure).

The third one, expected to hold in Akwa-Ibom state, Uyo to be precise, which is a state in the South Southern part of the country is what we are anticipating and this has also seen a higher positive response already than the previous edition. One good thing is we were able to
maintain the four days of activities (subtracting the days of arrival and departure).

 Conclusion

The prestigious event which has spanned two editions, renewed for a third and with plenty more fire left in it, has been a source of empowerment to a lot of Nigerians and even to those outside Nigeria. With each passing year, the number of crowd pulled increases, we
get more sponsors and we can be said to be both “the unstoppable force and the immovable object” all at once.

Truth be told, when the team discusses how to make each event better, we often get scared about our
budgets. But like the saying goes “if your dreams don’t scare you, then it is not big enough.”

A blend of both social and blockchain/cryptocurrency event, this event was designed in such a way that one could comfortably see it as a vacation while expanding their knowledge base in an environment where
general blockchains and cryptocurrencies are dissected seamlessly.

The event will of course do more with more support and with the help of sponsors; we can achieve this dream even faster. Expansion plans for this project will be unveiled soon.
