Steem(it) In Nigeria2: The Vision, the mission and the actualization
Introduction
The steem blockchain, a vast reserve of untapped potentials, from a three and a half second transaction time, to a limitless blockchain performance capped by the impossibility of zero trasaction fees.
With over four hundred million dollars invested in this blockchain giving room for confidence among future investors and a possible steem market dominance in the nearest future.
One of the problem in the crypto world is the problem of bitcoin dominance and bitcoin dependence, this means a rise in the price of bitcoin might signal a rise in the price of other alternative coins while a sharp fall in the price of bitcoin will signal a resulting sharp fall in the price of other alternative coins.
This is really causing a big problem as different good cryptocurrency projects seek to solve different real life problems as without real life application or derivatives, such a coin is considered useless.
What is the application of steem? For starters, middle men in financial transactions are either greatly reduced or totally eliminated.
Furthermore, lightning transfer speeds eliminates the hassles of 'the wait.' Let us even go ahead to say the steem blockchain has gone further to empower a social world in a utopian peaceful clime. Of course there are frictions from time to time, but most people adopt the nice and compliant bug once they join steemit.
With Smart Media Tokens read more here, Hivemind read more here and other beautiful projects in the making, the year 2018 shall be dubbed the year of steem.
From the third to the fourth quarter, steem will give other blockchain products out there a run for their money.
Another good thing about the steem blockchain aside the innovations we have experienced since 2016, is the powerdown mechanism, which prevents the sudden and total collapse of the system, by giving users a 13 week window before total withdrawal of funds.
The problem
A source once said that the vision is more focused on hitting about ten million followers (not in that sense)...I won't quote the full context of that source because of two reasons:
- My words may be misconstrued
- I prefer to say it according to how I understand.
The problem with hitting even one million users is that you have to hit nine nine hundred thousand ACTIVE users/investors first, then you can focus of going up from there.
That leads me to the first problem; we need active users who actually understand that the blockchain is not just a get rich quick scheme, it is a clime which must be tenderly and patiently nurtured before it can blossom. They need PEOPLE who will UNDERSTAND how here actually WORKS.
The second problem is actually fostering real community building among nations, because we would have surely come across the 'came for the rewards and stayed for the community' slogan, it is time to actually actualize it. SMT's and Hivemind has paved way, but like a vehicle, there are different components which form part of a whole.
Furthermore, steem has not yet gained enough usage and investment to establish a dominance over the top ten cryptocurrencies.
For that to happen, steem has to:
- Beat the current record of over one hundred billion dollars bitcoin currrent cap.
- Become number one
Sadly, we are yet to even beat the one billion dollars cap, giving the investors a beautiful return for their investments. Here comes the juicy part
The solution
If we list problems without solutions, then we have only created a greater problem. Introducing the Nigerian initiative which shook Nigeria, Africa and the blockchain.
When I joined the platform in April 2017, I went on to analyze the problems with the blockchain and possible solutions. In less than two months, I had that figured out.
The first thing I did was to come up with an idea called the Steemit In Nigeria initiative, funny thing is I was actually talking to @thejohalfiles on discord about it before I even knew who he was (I just liked his discord avatar and the fact that he was open to discussions). He had another name on discord. I reached out to as many people as possible about the idea and help came!
Little by little, a dream was becoming a reality and it became a reality. We changed the face of community building in Nigeria and so many other similar and wonderful ideas popped up from there.
Directly and indirectly, we have on-boarded so many users on to the platform, making them users of steem.
That happened in 2017, this year, we are taking it up a notch. Before we even make any announcement, we study what the blockchain needs at that time and react to that.
This year, we are targetting;
- Communities
- Investors
- Investments
We want to do something that will lure investors and investments to the blockchain from Nigeria and Africa and this is what we have set out to do.

We have been working round the clock with teams like @wafrica, @steemexchanger and so many others to provide an awesome event.
ID cards are ready, Shirt samples are ready, massive publicity in Abuja commences soon. This year's event is slated to hold in Abuja from the 30th of October till the 4th of November 2018.
All the contracts are being handled by steemians to empower them.
What do we need?
Support is never too much. We have budgeted about $9,000 for the success of this event, and we cannot come to the table empty handed. We have generated over 1,100 steem so far and more is needed towards the success of this event.
All donations should be made to the @leadent360 account.
Special shoutout to @donkeypong, @ausbitbank, @demotruk, @surfyogi among others (who I cannot list as this list will be endless) for their amazing contribution towards the success of this event.
