I like the color green. I like dark green moss, green meadow that bears the vibrant animated creatures also the festive green pine tree. However, nothing can beat that luxurious hue that can only be worn by money. Nowadays, most of our lives revolves around money. With the globalization entering this era, we can also acquire virtual money to be spend on. “And another one made their way to the shopping cart”, I sighed. If only all my wishes were just as simple as asking a genie to grant it for me, I would not even been bothered to browse online emporium sites for hours. If anyone ever asks what their guilty pleasure are, then mine would be shopping. The New Year sales frenzy were up for days now and the idea of replacing every old possession has been haunting me since. Darting from every dusty curtain, cranky door hinges, spotted shoe rack to every piece of jewelries, rings and necklaces. I started off with the practical items, then my eyes started to search for more glamorous and fancy stuff. The temptation is overwhelming to the point that even the petty things such as unicorn night lamp aroused my interest to put it on my shopping cart.
“Shopee!”, my phone’s notification hollered. That’s right, that’s the signal that whatever my items that has been sitting in the shopping cart is on sale. The clicking never ends. If I’m not careful, I might as well used up all my saving accounts money. The only way to prevent it is to make a strategy on how to spend money wisely. As an online and offline shopaholic, I always have the best of both worlds. It’s a must to pay attention to important dates where certain shops will advertise discounts, free vouchers, coupons and even giveaways for the lucky winners. Therefore, I always prepared a calendar that has been specifically used for my shopping habits. It was a relief that I prepared beforehand on which dates offer the best price for items that I had my eye on. I also kept an album full of vouchers from the local shops carefully compiled under different category.
I put out my little notebooks and list out my wish list. The two columns of “want” and “need” will definitely help to control my impulsive buying habits. I thought about its practicality, benefits and the degree of use in my day-to-day life. Before confirming an item in a “need” column, I think about whether I can still buy it even if the price is doubled. If I am incapable, then it will be put as a “want”. Putting aside the aesthetic and technological aspect, a 3000 ringgit smartphone could possibly function equally to a decent 200 ringgit smartphone in terms calling and texting. Purchase should be the measurement of our capability in spending wisely and reasonably as well as selecting the best quality.
