U.N. Irish pub - Chiang Mai: Urgh! except for the snacks.
Let me set this straight ok... this place actually looks really good, and they have a really nice garden and what not. However, the service her e is just so unbelievably bad.
we walked in because the garden looked great and then I was hopeful when a staff member came over and gave us menus. I am not joking when i say that it was at least 10 minutes, more like 15 before I stood up and made someone who works there come over and take our order. I was met with a dangerous-looking stare from what I would later find out was the owner of the place. Apparently, by being a customer and wanting to order and thereby put money in his pocket, I was being a cunt. Silly me for wanting to come to your establishment fella... this is a mistake I will not make again, I promise you that.
We didn't order much food here because after a massive wait in a relatively empty establishment I suppose it doesn't make much sense to order food but I needed to evaluate the food aspect of this place as well before I walked away. This is where U.N.scores some points.
The food was fast, it was delicious and it was organized wonderfully. I know that pic doesn't look like much but it was quite possibly the best fried chicken that I've had in an appetizer sense.
The kitchen must not be tied to the front of the house becuase the food was ready fast and it was great, while getting another beer in this place is exceptionally difficult. You gotta wave your arms about and invoke the ire of the owner.. or you have to walk up to the bar and interrupt a game of something.... (I was going to say Candy Crush but i don't think anyone plays that anymore)
I think this place has a lot of opportunities... but the almost complete absence of staff even caring that you are there at all is an embarrassment. Seeing what I presume was the owner or manager not help, but perhaps contribute to the customer-ignoring problem is extra bad.
there were people here but they waiting 10 minutes and no one even approached them so they left
I really recommend that anyone traveling to this part of the country just avoid this place. I wanted to order a Guinness (which is always special) but I told one girl and she never came back with it. I was treated as though I was a nuisance every time i asked for something and it isn't like i was looking for free napkins. I honestly think that the front of the house (kitchen did really well) needs a massive overhaul... perhaps including and especially the 100kg+ owner/ manager who interfered with the running of the place and didn't help at all.
Phew. I know there are some shockers around and it just seems like such a waste. It has all the facilities to be a big money earner and it is just being run so badly. Pity about the owner/manager as he obviously has no clue. Staff do make an establishment. Imagine moving the staff from the enjoy cafe and what a difference it would make. I like your good honest reviews.
This place could be a case study of how bad management makes bad staff. If the guy in charge doesn't care, what inclination will a person who is making very little money have? The really sad part is that this is the sort of place that would normally bring in a lot of tips (tipping is not really a thing in Thailand) but I don't imagine there is a lot of tipping going on here.
That is such an unpleasant experience. The thing that drives me crazy when one is badly treated in an restaurant is that if I and others did not patronize the place, they would be out of business. Sometimes the owners need a wake up call.
I rarely use review sites to complain about places. I haven't done so in many years. I went online for this one though.
Yesterday you told me about a Bar in Chiang Mai that was very warmly welcomed, even though the food menu they offer is not special and you even say it is very standard, but exceptional service makes you feel like you are at home..
Then today I read your post about a very good place but the service you get is very bad ... that means you can't see the place, but look at the service ...
It definitely disappoints anyone.
