Shark attack Data

Well with beach season here, and the water getting warmer. People are heading to the beach, and either getting in the water, or are afraid to get in the water. I for one seem to waffle back and forth, but here is the data.

World Wide shark attack data, but you need to take last year with a grain of salt as the world was shut down, so less people in the water. First we will need to get some definitions out of the way.

“Unprovoked attacks”------- are defined as incidents in which an attack on a live human occurs in the shark’s natural habitat with no human provocation of the shark.

“Provoked attacks” ------occur when a human initiates interaction with a shark in some way. These include instances when divers are bitten after harassing or trying to touch sharks, bites on spearfishers, bites on people attempting to feed sharks, bites occurring while unhooking or removing a shark from a fishing net and so forth.

Out of the 129 attacks 13 deaths occurred 10 of them were unprovoked, which is up from the average of 4 unprovoked deaths a year.
