Where's my waist? Am I wearing this thing in the right place?

Corset neophytes often try to lace their corsets to their apparent waist,
then get concerned when it naturally settles at the more compressible skeletal waist.

Better to lace to this level from the get-go and enjoy the extra cinching (and comfort!) it will provide. If you think your corset might be settled too high on your waist and you've already laced up, there's an easy fix.

Firmly grasp the bottom of the front of the corset with both hands. Holding it in place, inhale upward, arching your back. This will stretch your spine and raise your ribs above the waist of your corset.

When you loosen your corset, the first "free" breath is glorious.
We call it "an out of bodice experience".
It's almost like a lightening fast nitrous or nicotine buzz.
You get a little lightheaded for a moment.

Most people,
I know, hold their breath until the corset is unlaced enough for them to draw a deep breath.
However, they are described as painful, or at least really uncomfortable.
The first time I put the corset on, I struggled with it a good 10 or 15 minutes.
I had to loosen the ribbons (laces) in the back, and then they ended up too loose and started coming off all the way.

Eventually I realized there's a zipper on the side of the corset.

Oh. So all you really need to do is loosen the ribbons, zip the corset around you, and then tighten the ribbons. It would still be easier to tighten them, if you have someone to help you, but I think it's something you can get better at the more you do it.

I was pleased with the quality of our corsets. It's a lot nicer than I would've expected for an under-twenty-dollars corset itself is about.
