Kim Cattrall Made a Major Life Decision During Her Sex and the City Days
In recent weeks, for seemingly no reason other than that Kim Cattrall is ready to burn some bridges, the former Sex and the City star has been spilling excellent gossip about her time on the series. There was the revelation in late September that she was refusing to do a third film, and her doubling down in an interview that also called star Sarah Jessica Parker on the carpet. Now, in the full conversation with Piers Morgan, from which a lot of juicy details have already leaked, Cattrall is saying that her “toxic relationship” with Sex and the City even led to her decision not to have kids.
The actress, now 61, said that when she married her former husband, Mark Levinson, in 1998 (they divorced in 2004), she considered undergoing I.V.F. treatments to get pregnant. But when she did the math with her demanding shooting schedule, she realized adding one more thing wouldn’t work.
“I thought to myself, ‘Wow, I have 19-hour days on this series’ . . . My Monday morning would start at 4:45 a.m. and go to one or two in the morning. How could I possibly continue to do that, especially in my early 40s?” she said . . . “I thought, ‘I don’t think it is going to happen.’ It was the first moment—it was extraordinary—in my life where I thought, ‘Maybe I’m just not going to do this,’” she added.
Cattrall went on to say that instead of being a mom, she has chosen to mentor young actresses: “I thought, ‘I have a place to be a mom here—not a biological mom, but a mom and an auntie and a friend,’” she said. “And that has really given me so much. As much as I give, I get twofold back.”
Cattrall told Morgan that she thinks Parker is also partly to blame for the reason a third Sex and the City film—on which Parker would have been a producer—never came to fruition.
“And this is really where I take to task the people from Sex and the City and, specifically Sarah Jessica Parker, in that I think she could have been nicer.”
