SEX! A CANCER?
One of the most regular activities throughout the globe is sex. Every living creature in the universe in one way or the other have sex or at least a version of it. Sex is one of the things in life that can either bring out the beast in people or the unicorn inpeople. The flaming desire by humans to have sex controls almost every action and inaction in the world. This due to our body chemistry and mental setup. For instance, almost every individual is biologically designed to be attracted people of the opposite sex. However each individual has the qualities he/she sees in another person that turns them on. This becomes the person’s personalized mental electrons as I prefer to call it.
Sex has a very important place in society. It is for this very reason that most people work their entire life for sex or because of it. Question: What is the difference? A man who works in order to make enough money to get a particular lady and/or attract pretty ladies to have sex with works for sex whiles another person who works to please his/her spouse or partner and/or to take care of his/her children works because of sex. This is because without sexual attraction and the need/desire of it, he/she wouldn’t be doing so.
For instance, were it not for sex; there would have been no partner nor spouse not to talk of doing things to please. There would have been no children to cater for. With those out of the picture, one might not go the extra mile to do certain stuff. Even without anyone to either attract, please or take care of, one will still have to work to take care of himself/herself. “Wallaa”!! Here comes the question. Aren’t you a product of sex? I guess you are smiling by now. You ask yourself that question and after answering, you will realise that you are working because of sex or for it at least. Our every action and inaction is controlled by sex.
Now! Let us ask ourselves whether our attitude towards sex is right or not. Ask again whether sex is socially cancerous or not because it’s an integral part of our everyday lives. In answering these questions, let’s first answer the question; why do people have sex? People have sex for two core reasons; procreation and pleasure.
Sex for procreation is the key to the existence of most us. I said most of us by dint of the fact that some births were never planned. Such births were borne out of sex for pleasure. It does not also mean that sex for procreation cannot also be fun. It is a matter of the individual and mind-set. So they intertwine.
The second kind which is sex for pleasure can be beautiful but can also be dangerous. Dangerous because it is this kind of sex that shakes our airwaves. It is the kind causing societal sexual pitfalls. Most of the leaked sex tapes in our world is due to this kind of sex. How many couples out there will record a video of their sexual exploration? Approximately none. However, two loggerhead youth lovers are more likely to. A prostitute or sex worker would because he/she is in for the money/fun. This kind of sex is more likely to be a cancer in any human society because it pollutes the human mind-set. They make a lot of waves in society like a bush-fire in the harmattan and infect our children and young ones like a plaque.
The disheartening and most threatening of it all is those having sex for money or material things under the pretext of relationship and/or dating. At least a prostitute or sex worker makes it clear and open he/she is in for the money hence absence of deceit. On the other hand, those that have sex for monetary returns in the name of relationships use various dubious tactics like deceit, seduction and sometimes threats (threats to end the relationship). The other party heeds to the demand because of a so called “love”. How interesting this is. These are worms or should I say viruses to trust hence a lot of mistrust in the society because I believe trust is one of the basic building blocks to a healthy society. Since sex is an integral part of society, when crooks and hypocrites use it to abuse relationships, the likely outcome is mistrust and a sickened society.
It is fascinating to note that society has turned a blind eye to this particular truth for centuries. Society frown upon prostitution yet the deadliest type of prostitution is ignored. Mistrust, disbelief, enmity, hatred, indiscipline, insecurity, insanity, suicide and murder are but just a few of the outcome of sexual deceit in the society.
We have to; see sex as a beautiful item of creation and treat it as such, frown on any form of abuse of sex. We need to also integrate the need and use of healthy sex either in our attitude and approach into our lives and the raising of our young ones. Only then will we have a discipline and a healthy society free of sexual based mistrusts.
