10 Reasons why you should learn Sewing - Start Today!

Start learning how to sew today! I tell you 10 reasons why:

  1. You can sew clothing that is exactly the way you want it. Clothing from the store is constructed in uniform sizes with "average dimensions". But each person is built differently. Often the garments don’t fit in some places or not at all.
  2.
  3. You don’t depend on the fashion trends, designers and shops. You can choose fabric type, colors and patterns, no matter what is offered in stores.
  4.
  5. You can sew the designer pieces of famous fashion designers. Just find similar or the same fabrics and construct your favorite clothes.
  6.
  7. You can construct extravagant patterns and lift yourself off from the crowd. Find your own special style and unique pieces that no one else wears. So, you will not meet anyone wearing the same garment!
  8.
  9. You have discovered a new hobby that can bring joy and relaxation. Okay, at the beginning you make mistakes and can also despair, but endurance is worth it. Once you master the basics, sewing is no longer difficult and has a rewarding effect on the mind.
  10.

  11. Sewing is often cheaper than buying clothes. Search for cheap sources nearby or on the Internet. Perhaps relatives or friends still have fabrics that they don’t need no longer. From leftovers or small pieces of fabric you can make inexpensive children's clothes. In addition, you do not have to bring new-bought pants to the changing tailor to shorten them. So, you save money again.
  12.
  13. Recycling: From Old to New! Create a jeans skirt or children's clothing from old damaged jeans. From unloved or damaged jerseys, you can sew crawling pants for the little ones. Do you have wool left? Just crochet a few Granny squares and mix them with a lace fabric for a skirt or shirt in Bohemian Style. You have lost weight? Then create new individual design pieces from too large garments.
  14.
  15. You can decorate your clothes however you want to, e.g. with embroidery, appliqués and edgings. They can be made by wool leftovers. The imagination knows no limits!

  17. When you have gained experience and your sewing looks neat, you can make money with your hobby.
  18.
  19. You create a lasting value which your loved ones will also appreciate. Homemade things are still a beautiful gift today. Purchased stuff has only material value, but self-made things also have an immaterial value. For example, I still love to wear the clothes that my deceased grandma has made for me and I always like to remember her through that. And who does not like to remember his childhood when Mum or Dad sewed costumes for Halloween?

I wish you lots of joy with sewing!

sigh I brought a sewing machine a few years ago to teach myself, after several attempts it mostly just sits in the corner laughing at me.

Oh no ;) But I know how you feel. My first sewing machine was not good quality and it was no fun to sew, so I didnt use it for ten years. Then I became an adult and got my first job. I bought a very good machine. From then I was sewing almost every day. Just try it again with your machine! What was the problem?

oh the machine is fine, It's me that's the problem i was getting too frustrated too quickly. I'm starting a new junk journal soon so will use it to practice a little more.

Great! Yes, the beginning is difficult. But as I wrote in the post, it will become easier 😉

Just discovered your blog and now I'm following haha
I am learning how to sew, I only make buntings and curtains and the occasional throw pillow but I'd like to make clothes as well. So glad I found you!

Thank you so much for following! Making curtains and pillows are a great way to learn sewing. I also started sewing with a pillow. If you want you can post a picture in the comment section. Would be interisting to see what you created.

I Love sewing! Am at the moment recovering from an operation on my foot (diabetes related) so have been banned from playing with needles and pins lol ... can't wait to get back to it, I miss it every day and my sewing room misses me! I like your post very much =) I too am encouraging my nieces and friends and young cousins to learn to sew, I even give tips in FB messenger to them when they get frustrated! I have been asked to have classes in learning in my house but sadly i had to decline as i am not physically able to, yet. am so frantically eager to get back into my sewing room that it is good incentive =)

Get well soon! I am happy you like my post!

I recently came upon your site and have started following it. The Janome HD3000 could be ideal for you if you're searching for a heavy-duty machine that can handle denim and other challenging fabrics. Consider the Brother ST371HD if you want something with additional functionality, including an automated needle threader or a drop-in bobbin loading system. For more about the best mechanical sewing machine see my blog. Before making your final selection, make sure to read reviews and compare pricing for any equipment you are considering. There's no need to settle for anything less than the finest when there are so many fantastic devices on the market right now!
