THE CUAIMA PIÑA.
La Cuaima Pineapple (Lachesis mutates) perhaps, the most incredible and powerful snake of the American continent.
The Cuaima is the largest poisonous snake in America, reaching up to 4 meters long and weighing more than 5 kilos.
Its name comes from its rough appearance and coloration, which resembles the shell of the Pineapple. They are normally rare snakes and in Venezuela even more for the destruction of their habitat thanks to agriculture and hunting for the consumption of their meat or their skin.
Like every viper, it is poisonous; its poison is not as toxic as that of its raw Mapanares (Bothrops sp.) and Cascabeles (Crotalus sp.) BUT the large amount that can be injected due to its large size is the dangerous part of its bite.

This species is distributed mainly to the North of South America and to the South of Central America. It inhabits well humid areas, with high rainfall and mountainous areas up to 1800 meters above sea level.

It should be noted that they are animals of a delicate nature, and they say that it is for this reason that they were given the popular and colloquial name of a very brave Venezuelan woman (Cuaima), so they say, eye!
