Do you have a website? Some advice here

Hi Steemit people!

I don't know how familiar you are with terms like SEO and PPC or SEM. I can imagine many of you are tech savvy, given the nature of this platform.

But let me talk to you about my point of view about maintaining a website in shape, being it a blog, static website or e-commerce.

During my experience, I managed to make a list of main point I believe are pivotal:

  1. Content (original one)
This is always the start. Bad content doesn't go anywhere or bursts into ash in the short term. Traction and interest are driven by original content, possibly well formatted and varied in its nature (multimedia welcome)

  2. User Experience and layout
Good content has to be accessible, pleasing to consume. Spacing (padding), colours, layout in general has to be appropriate for the device your users are browsing from. Make it wrong and you waste (often hide) your talent and creativity.

  3. Speeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeed
Yes, a slow website has a high chance to be 'discarded' and forgotten before it even shows the homepage. Not ideal, is it? There are techniques for reducing the loading time, image size and how much time it takes for your content to be consumed.

  4. Take people to your website
SEO, Seach Engine Optimisation, can happen both on-site and off-site. It's slightly technical, but it is what can create the best traffic for your website (I am talking about quality over quantity). Social media are great channels for visibility if managed properly. PPC, Pay-Per-Click, is a great investment if you have some resources (great flexibility and control make it a good option even for small budgets)

  5. Keep people
Give your users a good reason to go back to your website. It could be exclusive content or whatever... every website is a different creature (yes, creature)!

I will stop here for this post, but be sure there is more to come!
In the next posts, I will give some more specific advice for your website's success.

Stay tuned,

Myself
