"The Muslim needs to know the Christian vision of Jesus as his Savior"
The day-to-day headlines are replete with news of terrorism, assassinations and destruction. The militant groups are continuously generating news for headlines.
Meanwhile, in recent years more Muslims are approaching the faith in Christ than in the remaining 1,400 years of history of coexistence with the religion of the half moon.
According to Fouad Masri, founder and president of the Crescent Project, "Muslims need to hear from the Christian perspective what it means for Jesus to be my Savior, the idea that He said he does not call us slaves, but friends."
"There are 3 reasons that explain why Muslims are coming to Christ: first, because they know authentic Christians; second, because they read the Bible in their mother tongue; and third, because they see Jesus in dreams or in a vision, "Masri explained in an interview during the European Leadership Forum in Wisla, Poland, which took place in May 2017.
The president of the Crescent Project project believes that "the translation of the Bible helps them to read the gospel in their own language," and "that is also very useful when it comes to discipleship."
Many Muslims are having dreams in which Jesus appears, and that makes them "question who Jesus is and why he is communicating with them."
What is it that Muslims need most of Christians?
- I have been training on the subject of the gospel with Muslims since 1979. The greatest joy for me is when they understand the gospel.
Personally, I think the first thing you need to hear from us is what it means that Jesus is my Savior, the idea that He said He did not call us slaves, but friends. That is the most important. However, some of us may not be able to start from that point, and what they need to hear is simply a "hello", or a kind gesture, a gesture that makes them feel welcome, and especially, respect.
I always respect Muslims, but sometimes, when we talk to them and say something that does not make sense, I say, "Thanks for sharing your opinion, but I do not agree with you." I like to show them respect, even in situations where they say something very strange or illogical. Every time we meet a Muslim, they need us to transmit love, affection, respect and compassion. We need to build bridges, not walls. However, what they definitely need and that is key is to know that Jesus loves them deeply, and they need to know that He is their personal friend, Savior and Lord.
What is the effect on Muslims of knowing a Christian practitioner? - There are 3 reasons that explain why Muslims are coming to Christ: first, because they know authentic Christians, practicing believers; second, because they read the Bible in their mother tongue; and third, because they have a dream or vision where Jesus appears.
The reason why it is important for a Muslim to know a Christian practitioner is that they can receive answers to the questions they have, as they often give incorrect information. One of those who formed with us has a Turkish neighbor who is an entrepreneur. When that man went home one day to dinner, he asked him: why do Christians eat bread and fish every Sunday?
The other replied: no, it's bread and wine, what we do every Sunday is the sacrament, why do you think we eat bread and fish? His neighbor, who is now about 40 years old, said that when he was 12 years old he was taken to Istanbul and they entered a Catholic church, where there was an image of Jesus holding a basket with fish and another with bread. That made him think that it was what Christians did every Sunday.
This is just a story without much importance to use it as an example that, many times, they need an authentic and practicing Christian to explain the gospel to them. Whether you receive Jesus or not, which is not in our hands, let us explain what it is that we believe in.
Another church that made our formation traveled to Greece to work with refugees, and a young Syrian went and asked the pastor: Why do you call Jesus "Son of God"? How can you believe that God had sex with Mary? And he continued: "That is why you call Jesus the Son of God, because he is half human and half God. His mother is human and his father is God. "
The pastor answered him and said: "No, we do not believe there was a sexual act. We believe that it was a miracle, God made a miracle with the Virgin Mary and then Jesus was born. We call him Son of God to give glory to God.
