Everything can be hacked, even Super Mario World!

in #security8 years ago (edited)

This video is just incredible. By exploiting a bug in the original SNES Super Mario World someone is able to inject the code of Flappy Bird into RAM and start executing it. This got me thinking about Ethereum and the DAO hack.

The hack described in the video below is much more involved, yet obviously, a whole lot less disruptive (and lucrative). If you want to know more about the details of that hack see here.

The sheer lengths the SNES hacking enthusiasts went to get this working is astounding, and all just for the bragging rights of saying that they did it. My question is: do we really have a hope in hell of writing secure Ethereum contracts if stuff like the Super Mario World hack is possible?

Wow, that's quite the effort to hack something just because. I gotta hand it to that dude for ingenuity and dedication. I could never manage that level of gaming/hacking.

Did you hear about "The Simulation Hypothesis"? This article help me figure out, that if the real world is in fact simulation, it also can be hacked from inside :)

I can recommend really interesting video about that:

in something like 9:00 they are talking about hacking the reality :)

Nice! Will have to listen

I'd like to see flappy bird hacked into the census website.
