Interview with TELL: Japan’s need for higher quality mental health care

in #sdgs4 years ago

While I didn't personally conduct the interview, the interview with Vickie Skorji, Director of TELL Lifeline revealed so much about Japan's dangerous situation about dealing with suicides (which stands at insufficient). TELL Lifeline is a lifeline call service.

Even though there has been a decrease in the number of suicide in the past decade, it's really strange to think that medication is the recommended support. I do suspect that most of the prevention work has been the wonderful work of NGOs and local communities. TELL is undoubtedly one of the biggest organization providing a community where people with mental health can turn too in their darkest times. It's no wonder TELL used to be called "The Life Telephone".

Do give the interview a read, as it doesn't only explain the needs for mental health care in Japan, but also the philosophy for mental health care everywhere.
