Stranger Things Insight and Theory Question [SPOILERS]

Last night I binge watched all of Stranger Things on Netflix. I didn’t plan on it, but the show had me hooked. It was something original and different than anything I have watched in awhile. I usually try not to think into fan theories or show plots too much, but after waking up this morning something about the show wasn’t sitting right with me.

WARNING SPOILERS AHEAD

First off, I just want to restate how much I really enjoy sci-fi works. This show was extremely well written, and I cannot wait to see what they do with next season. Unfortunately, There was a part in the show that I’m still confused about. So, we know that 011 is this super human being that can move objects with her mind, communicate with other dimensions, and find people from basically anywhere in the world.

First, she faces tasks such as crushing a can, killing a cat, and finding a human being and listening to what they are saying. She completes her tasks, minus killing the cat (thank god), and they start to put her into the sensory deprivation chambers. So, in these chambers, her powers are obviously amplified because she can focus better, and in doing so she goes to find someone (presumably a general in an army or something) that is in the normal universe dimension. Here’s where things get interesting.

She finds the general, but then he disappears and the Demogorgon comes out of nowhere. She screams and comes back to her senses in the real world, but it obviously shaken up about the whole situation. The next attempt, Dr. Brenner wants 011 to find the Demogorgon, as he realizes that she may have found something from another world or dimension. He tells 011 that she cannot be hurt by the being, because she isn’t actually there. When 011 goes in and find the Demogorgon, she touches it and freaks out causing a massive hole to the dimension of the Veil of Shadows.

This is what I don’t understand. If 011 is only finding the Demogorgon, and not actually there with it, how come she freaks out and creates a hole into the other dimension? Clearly, she isn’t physically there with it, so when she creates this hole isn’t she only causing a massive amount of energy at the plant location? Presumably, from what we have seen from 011’s powers, doing something so powerful would kill her. Also, creating a rift in space time would have more impact than just a nest spawning in the power facility. She gets wiped out from killing two people in the beginning of the show (when she was supposed to kill the cat), but apparently doesn’t die from creating a rift in the universe.

Also, how was she even able to find the Demogoron searching through the Earth’s dimension? She wasn’t actively looking for it the first time she went through, and it seemed as if it wasn’t able to travel into 011’s weird, blacked out mind search. It was basically a normal predator that could smell blood and eat creatures. So, we can’t presume that it would have the ability to sense creatures from the “upside down” without having the portal opened. If it was able to sense them and travel to the other dimension, then it wouldn’t need 011 to go through dimensions in the first place.

That was a pretty rough explanation of what I was thinking. Hopefully, someone else can elaborate on this topic because it is eating at me now. I will say though, if you made it this far into the article without seeing to the show, go watch it. I promise it will be worth your time.
