Beautiful Mystery Insect (#Sciencepic)
A few of these can be found resting on the plants on my balcony. They're quite docile. I can't actually find the species in any database, but it looks kind of like a hybrid moth with those big, furry antennae. If you take a closer look, you'll see that each wing has 3 transparent spots. Science has only recently discovered that these spots aren't as empty as they first seem.
A scientist typically looks at insects with a bright light and a white backdrop, but once you put a black backdrop behind them, a whole new world of insect is unleashed. Here's an example:

So one can only imagine what this beautiful mystery bug looks like to the insect world!
Sometimes I find amazing insect i've never seen before i don't know if they are new creation of coming from somewhere else.
Looks like it might be a black-headed wasp moth, Eressa angustipenna.
THAT'S THE ONE! I've been wanting to know this for a week! How on earth did you get it? Upvoted your comment with everything i've got
Thanks. Just kind of lucky that I figured it out since I'm not too familiar with moths in that region of the world. I was pretty sure it was in the Arctiinae subfamily, because I actually first thought it was some kind of tiger moth. After a bit of googling I saw it was more likely a wasp moth, which is another major group of the Arctiinae.
Great detective work =D
It looks like it might be invasive from Australia but I can't find much info on the matter
So interesting! it is the first time that I know the insects' wings are so colorful with a black backdrop.
Yep I only learnt it last week! Also if you look at many flowers in UV light, they display a whole new pattern:
Wow how strange and beautiful! It looks like it could sting. Glad you found out what it is. Isn't it nice that nature always gives us new things to discover? We commented on the same post, and I liked your comments (no steem, so I didn't upvote) so I decided to check out your blog. Following you!
