Chapter 3
Willow stood there waiting staring down the hallway into the black abyss at the edge of the light. She tried once more to connect to the Neural Net. Doing so reminded her of a feeling she sometimes got before she was old enough to get a Neural Lace. Not all the time but sometimes there would be those moments in which you go to a room to go do something and once you get there you suddenly have a hard time figuring out why you went there in the first place. You try thinking really hard in an effort to figure out why you did what you did. You do this only to find a void which fills your memory yet you know that something belongs there. This is what Willow felt when she tried connecting the the Neural Net. After several attempts of trying to connect she decided to give up and just listen to the corridor around her.
She could sometimes hear the breaths of the ancient walls which surrounded her as they groaned and creaked. She continued to listen and could hear some even more unfamiliar sounds. She could hear a faint and distant sound which sounded similar to what you hear if were take a thin plastic sheet and make a wobbling sound by extending it and retracting it. However this sound was quick as if someone only were to extend and retract the plastic once. Almost exactly three second after the quick wobble was another distant sound which was a sharp sswthoo which sounded like a firework whistling by. Then following directly after the sswthoo was what sounded like glass shattering. She continued to listen to these sounds which kept repeating.Wobble…… sswthoo, shatter, wobble…… sswthoo, shatter, wobble…… sswthoo, shatter…… this simply continued without ceasing.
Willow's curiosity engulfed her. She walked to the stairs and every step she took her pace quickened. As she descended down the stairs the sounds got louder wobble…..sswthoo,shatter. The stairs went in a spiral around one central wall.
Once she got to the bottom she peered out of an archway. She could see a big opening and in front of her there was a gap carved about a meter deep into the ground which went to the left and right. To the right she could see a very long and old rusty machine sitting in the gap. It rested on what looked like rails which continued down a tunnel to the left and the right. Past the gap she could see rusted pillars some of which were being strangled by vines along with the walls nearby. There was also random graffiti scattered throughout. Further past the pillars the ground was cracked in various places due to the epic force of nature. Vegetation peered through the floor dotting the room. Even further she could see another light source other than her own. Willow grabbed her drone out of the air and turned its top which turned off its light and she threw back into the air where it floated. Willow then quietly but hastily shuffled over to the gap and jumped down and hid inside.
Willow peeked over to get a better look at what was causing the noise. To the left and right there was stairs leading up and behind each stairway she could see a hallway. Straight in front of her she could see a circular room about 8 meters away. It was filled with tons of vegetation which sat along its walls. Bushes and random trees flourished in dirt which was elevated along the walls of the circular room. In the far right of the room she could see a person looking up and in their hand the person was looking through what looked like some kind of weapon. Wobble…...sswthoo,shatter. Behind the person was a floating round device and the air in front of it rippled like waves. Wobble;the rippling air hit a bottle which was on top of a long flat wooden bench. The bottle then flew from the chair in a sharp incline past the person. After it sailed through the sky the person hit a switch on the weapon. Sswthoo;a cylinder stream of light blue light erupted from the tip of the weapon and went straight for the bottle, shatter;the bottle shattered into a brilliant blue and white point of light and disintegrated. Willow thought about maybe getting the person's attention. Another bottle was thrusted into the air and shot. However she had the feeling that it might be a bad idea to risk spooking the person and getting shot by a deadly looking laser.
Willow looked back at the stairs to the left and right of her. Willow decided that she would try getting to one of them as silently as possible instead. She crawled up the gap and quickly made her way to the stairs on the right. She kept her eyes on the person which was fixated on shooting. Wobble….. swthoo, shatter. She went past a pillar which had a black screen on its side and took a quick glance at the stairs. She was halfway there. Wobble….. Swthoo, shatter. She quicken her pace to a sprint and suddenly felt a pull at one of her feet. She could feel herself falling as she looked down to see her shoe caught in thick vines. She hit the ground and that followed with a shattering of glass right next to her. She looked behind her below the pillar that she just passed to see glass scattered on the ground. She didn't hear a wobbling or sswthoo followed with a shatter.
"What are you doing?" questioned someone from Willows left. Willow jumped up from the ground and darted for the stairs. "Wait!" however Willow kept on running. She made it to the foot of the steps and quickly darted up them. She looked up when she was nearly to the top and saw doors but on them were boards which were nailed into the wall. Fear engulfed her body paralyzing it while she tensed up preparing to be disintegrated. Willow waited, a second passed then another and soon 3 more. Nothing was happening and her body didn't feel as if it was being disintegrated.
