SUPER-ATHLETES OF THE FUTURE

in #science6 years ago

Natural human skill is soooo last century. It’s boring. We need faster runners, harder punchers, stronger blockers…we need MORE!

And we can have it thanks to something called gene-doping. Some of our best and brightest scientists are developing ways to redesign the bodies of our best and brightest athletes through genetic modification and editing.

Dope!

Lance Armstrong infamously used EPO injections to boost how much oxygen was delivered to his tissue. The more the better. But that method is detectable. You are either born with a lot of the protein erythropoietin or you aren’t.

But thanks to genetic modification, doctors could introduce a gene into your body that produces extra EPO. The only way officials would be able to know you weren’t born with that special, extra gene would be to have a copy of your genetic code before it was altered. Otherwise, it would look all natural.

And then there’s gene-editing. Using that method, a scientist could simply cut and paste the EPO gene into your DNA, so there wouldn’t be any “extra” EPO gene at all. It would all look completely normal. Essentially, there would be nothing to find.

In the light of the recent news that sports gambling is now legal for states to allow, it seems our view on sports has shriveled into a pathetic “fuck it, just entertain me” stance. Ethics need not apply. Glory at any cost.

Young men and women from poor backgrounds and with nothing to hope for should totally be allowed to augment their bodies into hyper-physical monstrosities, pimping out whatever natural gifts they may have received until they are scarcely even human anymore.

And why even bother with games and rules. Just let the amped up freaks maul each other in to-the-death gladiatorial matches, pitting DNA lab vs DNA lab, proving which technique is more powerful. Scientific rivalry through physical combat!

That will be amazing. Won’t it?

This science is very latest, Bit from my point of this science is very dangreous for human.
Through research if we change the genetics of any things, than all the functions are changed. As you can write EPO injection this is not good for healt.
Very nice and informative post @writesbackwards, i am appreciate your post.

Genetic modification wow who would of thought. Just kidding, our world is ever evolving so when it comes to athletic competition scientist are always looking for the upper hand. It's like Lex Luther vs. Superman where superman is naturally strong but Lex on the other hand has to keep up with his foe slowly genetically modifying himeself and harnessing technology. I mean could you imagine If Mohamed Ali had this in the ring or Mike Tyson the sports industry would go bonkers let alone gambling. "Peace" Nice Post

If it really is amazing the things that can be done by manipulating the genetics, but personally it gives me some fear that they may end up causing harm to the person. I think the same as the women who compete in the beauty pageants. The most beautiful and healthy is the natural. Well at least for me.

No I don't think it is good to pump the body with all these modifying chemicals. It makes the body looks dreadful and years later all the skins sags. Yuk.

Thing is, how would you guarantee that this Gene technology remains in the hands of scientists in the entertainment industry? Imagine the chaos that would ensue if we were to let the law enforcement get their hands on this.

Super athletes foot sounds pretty scary. I love the idea of pitting dna lab against dna lab though. We could use the people on death row and let them fight to the death. That would be great. They're already in cages so no worries.

It's really amazing, and at the rate that science develops it's no wonder that in a decade we started to know genetically altered athletes
