LIDAR: amazing technology and similar discoveries

in #science6 years ago

A short while ago I wrote a post about an ancient civilization that has been uncovered to be a lot more civilized and large than ever before believed, other than by the readers of the Book of Mormon which speaks of millions of advanced people and cities in the area.

Below is a link to the post:

I was interested to see if there have been more discoveries made by this amazing technology and also other similar discoveries to what LIDAR has done.

Before I go into that a quick reminder of what this is.
LIDAR stands for "light detection and ranging". Also an amalgamation for the words light and radar.

It kind of reminds me of the movie Guardians of the Galaxy where Starlord is on a planet and has a device that shows him the past....how the buildings looked and where the people moved and congregated....this is kinda like that :).

So what are some of the discoveries other than that in Guatamala that this has uncovered.

  1. Zealandia Continent : A mostly submerged landmass that is for the most part around 1.6kms below the surface of the sea that was part of a large landmass that submerged during the continental shifting between Australia and Antarctica
In September 2017 32 scientists returned from a trip to discover 100's of fossils in Zealania's crust and even pollen. Speaks strongly of its interesting past.
  2. Lost Mexican city: A city as large and Manhattan was discovered in Mexico. Angamuco built around 900AD. These were the rivals to the Aztecs and the LIDAR scans show massive cities and development that until recently nobody even knew it existed!
Not as well known as the Aztecs, the Parapucha people were a major people in central Mexico up until the 16th century before Europeans arrived with war and disease.
Up to 40000 building foundations are visible and that would house >100000 people in that part of the city. Here is a pic of one of the neighborhoods :
  3. Angkor Cambodia: A rumored city that was to exist just outside the temple of Angkor Wat. Due to the vegetation, even though there was interest, it was almost impossible to do anything about exploring the remains of the city. That was until LIDAR made a sweep of the area regardless of the vegetation and barriers, and this is the discovery there. A whole city.....

Waterways, highways, connected roads and even dams....very similar to those in Guatamala. What a great discovery!!!

Is this tool to be the most important archaeology tool discovery made? Just think of the information that it has already uncovered and what is to come?!

I have read the Book of Mormon and can say that this is exactly what was written of about these people. Millions of people connected by trade, using cement, highways, massive cities with walls, government and military fortifications.
All these things are being shown to have existed in these civilizations, in the areas outlined in the book itself.
In my opinion, a great historic and spiritual treasure.

Check out this cool video on some of the discoveries

Hope you enjoyed this information :)

Cheers
