A-Level Cell Biology and Transport: Enzymes and Exocytosis
Most of us have heard of cells and enzymes, but how are enzymes produced? And how are they transported to where they need to go outside the cell? How do they get out?
This post aims to show step by step how enzymes are synthesised in the cell, and transported out of the cell in a process called exocytosis - an example of this would be the secretion of digestive enzymes in the digestive system.
At least a GCSE understanding of cells is recommended before studying this material.
First, lets look at the structure of a typical eukaryotic cell.
Now lets observe the process of synthesising an enzyme and transporting it through - and ultimately out of - the cell.
After going over the steps a few times and learning the key words, you should have a good understanding of synthesis and transport of enzymes in animal cells. Questions on this will appear in all A-Level Biology specifications.
