Partial Eclipse for the Solar Dynamics Observatory
Even though it’s not a full eclipse, it still looks amazing
This is a picture by the Solar Dynamics Observatory, run be NASA. To the SDO the moon only covered around 14% of the sun. Partial eclipses like this one happen more often to the SDO than they do to any area here on Earth, so there are a lot more opportunities for pictures. [1]
Solar eclipse are a great opportunity to see the solar corona. The solar corona is an aura of plasma that surrounds our sun. The solar corona was probably first seen all the way back in 932 BCE. The magnetic field of the solar corona allows particles to escape the sun and become solar wind. The first evidence that the sun had a magnetic field actually came from observing the corona, it appeared to have magnetic field lines. The first clues to the fact that the field changes is that the lines changed between every eclipse.[2]
I saw one too, this is nice.
I live a few miles from totality. What an intense event. Like a short mushroom trip lol...
