Do you know? SCORPIONS ain't that bad After all
Introducing Scorpion Venom
Scorpion Venom happens to be the most expensive liquid on earth? It is worth about $38,585,507.45 per gallon (3.7 liters) and outrageously more expensive than the Thailand's King Cobra Venom which cost $153,835.32 per gallon (3.7 liters).
Note: there are nearly 20,000 Scorpion species and just about 40 species are poisonous enough to kill human being.
Scorpion venom is very useful in medical applications. Proteins from it showed anti microbial activity. Scorpion venom also exhibited antimalaria potential. It can be used in the development of new drugs.
VIDATOV was obtained from the blue scorpion venom and it is referred to "Cuba's miracle drug". It was observed that the drug showed a very promising anticancer activity and research has it that it has been tested on more than 10,000 cancer patients.
Further research has been directed to look into how the scorpion venom can be used as an analgesics (pain killer).
A peptide from scorpion venom can suppress immune responses thus allowing to be used in the treatment of autoimmune diseases.
MILKING
The method of extraction of scorpion venom from the scorpion is term milking.
An average of less than 0.5mg of Venom is obtained from a single scorpion
Meanwhile, milking process is a very tedious task and can possibly be potentially life threatening to scorpion.
Methods of extracting scorpion venom include:
Abdominal Removal;
Puncturing the Venom gland. The techniques is unreliable and harmful.
Electrical stimulation;
Electrically stimulating the scorpion abdomen tends to release the Venom. The techniques is very reliable and results in larger quantities.
VES-4 Venom extracting robots;
Researchers have developed a robot to extract scorpion venom. Making it the best method so far. It is always free from contamination.
Indeed, scorpion venom has proven to eventually revolutionize the way science operates in diseases control
Hope you've added to your knowledge. Glad am of help. Thanks.
