Molecular Biology Equipment Needed for Community College Research Program
The Applied Research Technologies class at Cabrillo College in Santa Cruz, California (80S) had big plans for their semester that started on August 28th. They were to analyze genetic samples from fish and coral collected by a team of students (them!) and researchers (us!) in the remote islands of Micronesia.
Their plans came undone when they returned to find their antiquated classroom PCR machine, a machine that replicates DNA samples, unable to process the samples they had collected over the summer in Micronesia. The machine is too old and produces inconsistent results!
Will they be able to continue their vital research that impacts the lives of people living in the Micronesian Outer Islands and their applied research training in Molecular Biology?
We've already raised $3,000 towards a PCR machine, but need to raise another $4,000 by SEPTEMBER 29th! The class needs a new PCR the following week to accomplish all they need to do this semester.
It's an exciting challenge with lots hanging on the line.
