When did people start harbouring such disdain for science?
When I worked for a defense contractor, a retired Army officer colleague loaned me a camouflage jacket with his 101st Airborne patch still on it for a stint traipsing about the woods with some soldiers.
The jacket had an old camouflage pattern and, I thought, was obviously not mine given my age. But someone complained, so we cut the patches off the jacket lest anyone think I’d served in the 101st as a middle schooler.
The honor of wearing the patch belonged to those who earned it, not to me.
I feel the same about my colleagues with an MD, DO, PharmD, etc.
They studied for years to earn their degrees and have continued learning throughout their career; I would never dishonor them by pretending I know more about their field than they do.
The disdain and disrespect being displayed toward health care professionals and scientists these days is deeply troubling to me. We used to value education, expertise, and the sacrifices of those who care for the sick.
Not anymore.
I've never witnessed such arrogance, or such callous disregard and ingratitude toward those (eg, ICU nurses) putting themselves at risk to save lives.
Callous disregard until they get sick and their ‘faith healer’ can’t cure them. Then off to those they disregard looking for help.
I agree that the scorn against healthcare workers is (generally) unwarranted. BUT, when you look at most "science" - climate and food come to mind - it's been so corrupted by government incentives that most people can't help but question the narrative
