Reproduction is defined as the ability of a living organism to give rise to new individuals of the same species. The purpose of reproduction to ensure the continuity of life.

TYPES OF REPRODUCTION

There is two main type of reproduction which are sexual and asexual reproduction.

ASEXUAL REPRODUCTION:- This is the type of reproduction in which new organism are produced from a single parent without the production of germetes.

The offspring called the clones are the same in all respect to each other and to the parent organism that reproduction is binary fission, stem, cutting, grafting and budding.

SEXUAL REPRODUCTION:- This is the type of reproduction which involves the fission of the male gametes and female gametes to form a zygote which later develops to a young offspring. Examples of sexual reproduction are found in mammals, flowering plant.

Mammals generally are unsexual and reproduce sexually. Reproduction in mammals, e.g man is viviparous that is, they give birth to living young ones that develop from a fertilised egg. The structure and function of the male and female reproduce system are discussed below.

STRUCTURE AND FUNCTIONS OF MALE MAMMALIAN REPRODUCTION SYSTEM

The male mammalian reproduction system e.g man consist of the following structure :-

  • TESTES:- All male mammals have two oval-shaped testes inside two sacs of skin. In man, the sacs form a scrotum which encloses the two tests. In mammals, the testes are found outside the body cavity so as to provide a cooler environment that the body. such an environment enhances the rapid production of sperm.
