Many people agree with you - plastic is harmful and slowly destroys the ecology. But try to prove it to manufacturers of products that use plastic to save their money and make more money on their products. Glass and paper for them are more expensive material than plastic. They do not think about the ecology and health of consumers - they do their business. Only state laws can stop this disgrace.
Promotion of hemp based plastics would change all this - I am still not 100% clear why there aren't giant hemp plantations!
I think that people who illegally grow drugs will gladly plant giant plantations. Simply, the society will not allow this, because all people know 100% that hemp is death for a person. Unfortunately, as far as plastic is concerned, not all people in the community understand that plastic is harmful and dangerous. Therefore, plastic is produced in large quantities.
I'm not sure what you mean - hemp plantations were the main source of material for many industries for a very long time before world war 1 . hemp can be grown legally, with no psychoactive compounds involved, but for some reason it isn't generally done.

If the producers have an official permission to grow cannabis, you can imagine for what purposes they will start to grow it - not just for industry. There are already growers of industrial hemp - I don't think they need a license for it as it is just an other plant, provided it is not of specific strains that are psychoactive. There is no problem with the legality or practicality of growing it as far as I am aware, but for some reason it hasn't been mass adopted. The cause could simply be that oil based plastic has cornered the market and there isn't enough motivation to compete with them.
