New generation of 3D printing?!

in #science7 years ago

Hello Steemians,

I recently stubled upon this amazing article about something called Volumetric 3D printing. As a guy, who always been interested in 3D printing and someone who has a 3D printing company (link here if you are interested), I was really blown away.

What is Volumetric 3D printing?

As some of you may know, the traditional process is quite simple, You have your printer that builds 3D objects thanks to plastic, which is molted inside the pipes of the printer and then is poured on the surface according to the digital model.
This process is much more complex and harder to understand, basically you have a tank that is filled with liquid resin (the plastic) and thanks to special laser beams, that forms a hologram inside the tank, the 3D object is cured to the liquid resin within few seconds. If you don't understand, maybe this will help:

It might be the future of 3D printing, it solves a lot of problems, that the traditional process has, such as: printing time (it takes several hours, sometimes days to finish printing something) and you don't need supports holding your object during the printing, etc., but on the other hand you are limited with how complex your desired 3D object can be.

What do you guys think? Do you think this is the future?
