RE: Can weed cure cancer

in #science7 years ago

No. "Cancer" is a blanket term for nearly 200 very distinct diseases, all with even further unique mutations driving them. The cannabis plant has a lot of potential compounds that may be helpful in identifying chemicals that can help treat certain cancers. As of now, however, there is almost no high quality evidence to suggest it has any benefit for actually treating cancer or improving survival. There is strong evidence it can help reduce the symptom burden of cancer and chemotherapy (reduce nausea and pain), but that's it.

To say that cannabis can cure cancer is dangerously misleading. The patient and their physician are best to decide the course of preferred treatment, based on the individual characteristics of the cancer, medical knowledge and experience, and personal preferences and values.
