Science or Magic on Black Jade Aceh Gemstone ? [Chemisrty]

Magic or Scientific
Some of natural minerals had formed in metamorphic rocks through a metamorphosis process caused by heating temperatures above 150oC and pressure reach 1500 bar, thus affect the physical and chemical of mineral changes.
Aceh is a tropical region that have many mountains, even Aceh has 4 volcanoes such as Weh Vulcano, Seulawah, Peut Sagoe and Gerudong that located in Bukit Barisan or "Barisan Mountain". These mountains were located in western regions of Aceh, such as Banda Aceh, Meulaboeh, Lamno, and South Aceh. So there are many natural gemstones can be found in this area. A year ago many of collector hunt Jade Aceh, Because the gemstone of Aceh like Nephrite take a second rank of hardness level in the world. The hardness and color of gemstone influenced by mineral structure and concentration of chemical element, Therefore, I will explain several of jade type such as Jadeite, Nephrite and Black Jade. These gemstones have been familiar in Aceh since a years ago.
Jadeite Aceh
Basically, all agate or gemstone comes from natural minerals, these gemstones were formed under different conditions, so it have different color and mosh scale, in prehistoric times the nephrite gemstone used for stone carving but today it used as jewelry either as rings, bracelets, necklaces and so on, The Jadeite gemstone composed of Sodium (Na+) and Aluminium (Al3+) which bind to silica compound with chemical formula NaAlSi2O6, So it looks transparent even known as microcrystaline, although inside it appears a bit of impurities, but it has higher mosh scale around 6-7 mosh scale. This gemstone can be found in the West Aceh area or Meulaboh and Geumpang. If we look at the chemical formula, The Sodium is a white element and the Alumnium (Al3+) combustion produces green flame, and the silica is a transparent substance, So this chemical combination make this gemstone has a transparent green color that almost similar to emerald.
Nephrite Aceh
Nephrite is a natural mineral composed of calcium, magnesium elements and amphibole (Mineral contain SiO4) with chemical formula Ca2(Mg,Fe)5Si8O22(OH)2. Chemically, the nephrite contains elements of ferro magnesium (Fe3+, Mg+) so the nephrite colors not be transparent like jadeite, The jadeite only contain 2 chemical elements that bind on silica (SiO2) so it has more transparent, even Nephrite Aceh which has a blackish-green color can be pulled by magnet, it can be seen from element of ferro-magnesium contained in nephrite gemstone. If the green color of the jadeite caused by Aluminum element, then the green color of the Nephrite caused by calcium element, as we can see both Grossular gemstone with chemical formula [Ca3Al2(SiO4)3] and Uvarovite [Ca3Cr2(SiO4)3] are green, if we look at Grossular and uvarovite formulas, they contain calcium (Ca+) elements. So the green color of the nephrite caused by calcium element, and the blackish-green of Nephrite Aceh can be sticky by magnetic stronger, because the higher concentration of ferro magnesium the stronger magnetic can be pulled. and the color of gemstone more blackish.
Iodine Absorber
This gemstone was highly hunted by jade collectors, it can be found in the Middle of Aceh or Takengon area, this gemstone called in our native as "Badar Lumut" or commonly known as Black Jade Aceh, some sources said this gems composed of minerals similar to jadeite and nephrite that is a compound of magnesium silicate, and this gemstone contains of impurities elements inside, so make difficult to penetrate the light. The black substance inside of "Badar Lumut" was estimated as Ferro Oxide (FeO) compound, so that this gems can be drawn by magnet. The people and collectors said the Black Jade Aceh agate can absorb the iodine (I2), and it serves as a sign of the original of Black Jade Aceh. I also feel wonder why this gems can be function as an absorber at room temperature. therefore I feel interested to research about this gemstone. as long as my knowledge the Activated Carbon is an absorber, but the absorption power of activated carbon not as fast as this gemstone absorb iodine. Look at this video
Conclusion
Conclusion
All natural agates or gemstones are composed of naturally minerals, the differences color due to different concentrations and elements that make up the minerals, and differences structural of minerals also have different levels of hardness, although generally they are composed of silica or feldspar compounds. May be the absorber in the Black Jade gemstone is a siloxane compound, because siloxane can be formed in silica compounds due to pressure and temperature influence, but this should be further investigated scientifically.
