The process of witchcraft, witch-hunting - popular names of the criminal trial in which the accused is charged with practicing magic.
In Europe, most witch trials took place between the 15th and the 17th centuries. Their number increased especially during the Reformation and Counter-Reformation period, and the period of the largest persecution was in the years 1570-1630.
A special development of witchcraft processes took place in modern times. In Scotland, they began with the introduction of Anglicanism. Among the accusations made against the accused, most often appeared: worshiping the devil or pacting with the devil, flying on broomsticks, gathering on sabbaths, cooperating with succulents or succulents, cannibalism (including towards children), reducing diseases, death, impotence, infertility of people and animals, desecration of the mass or the consecrated host, causing hail, destruction of crops, theft. Historians note similarities in witch trials and accusations of ritual murder, such as the accusation of worshiping the devil, kidnapping children or burying blood for magical purposes. It is also noticed the occurrence of both these phenomena within Western Christianity, in the absence of them in the Orthodox church
