Discussion Science in 21st Century American Culture

in #science7 years ago

In the 21st century American culture is uniquely intertwined with science even from a religious aspect religion as become scientific to a certain extent. My experience has been that science influence culture for instance social media websites like Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram allow users to upload selfies or live video feeds of the users so now it seems many individuals are now spending most of their day trying to get the right camera angle or the right opportunity to start recording instead of just living life. Furthermore, prior to the wave of cell phones people use to actually write out full words in 2016 I noticed that people typically use abbreviations even I'm guilty of it due to using cell phones to text most of the time. It is said that results from scientific experiments help formulate or culture here in America that include many institutions from government to civilian, and that it is a balance between the two culture and science of influencing each other (Bowles & Kaplan, 2012). I personally believe that it is science that influence culture like the development of swords around 1600 B.C.E some refer to as the bronze era in which Japanese culture used swords that brought about the manifestation of Samurais including advancing the militarization of martial arts with added weaponry (John, 1994) seemingly enough trickles down to American culture with anime and manga films creating blockbuster box office movies not to mention cartoons such as the "Boondocks" along with "Afro-Samurai" starring Samuel L. Jackson. Next, the development of cameras and social media has influenced American culture by affording individuals to get a message across the nation in a non-violent manner to spark political change such as with the sensitive topic of race relations in America, and that football players like Colin Kaepernick taking advantage of media also the science of politics to protest in his own way of sitting down during the national anthem (Jarrett, 2016) it is my understanding that the media and social media platforms help influence American culture with the usage of various forms of science.
