Why is the study of operational research important?

Once initiated in the experimental, field and operational study, it is important to learn to recognize the problems that may arise in operational activities, all with the intention of diagnosing a study. and solution to each particular case.

There may be many theories that involve an adequate study to achieve the optimal achievement of the objectives of a system or the improvement of it, but in my opinion the most concerning of the studies to be applied would be operational research. Through operational research we can adapt the scientific methodology in the search for optimal solutions, also operations research is usually useful as a support tool in the processes where decision making is required, all this involving factors and elements of problems of the real life.

Currently there are people interested in the study and application of operations research, where first university students must be prepared in all the necessary academic aspects so that when entering the scientific field they can provide the necessary mathematical models to the industries and professionals who operate on them, with the intention as I had previously said to provide the necessary solutions to real problems.

What are the bases on which the operations research is based?

We can name essentially three characteristics that stand out when we describe operations research, these are:

• Systems theory.
• Participation of interdisciplinary teams.
• Application of the scientific method used in decision making.

Based on these three characteristics, I can make a conceptual base of operations research on which we can focus to understand a little more this beautiful discipline, so I can say that: Operations research is the discipline in which applies the scientific method by means of a set of interdisciplinary teams to try to solve problems that have an intrinsic understanding of the control and management of organized systems, in which this relationship can be found in the industry between the machine and the man , looking for the primary objective of finding the most pertinent solutions that serve to improve the purposes of the system (industry or organization), all linked to the processes of decision making.

Methodology to follow for the application of the scientific method in operational research

• I pose and analysis of the problem: before starting with the solution of the problem, it is necessary to raise the elements that give cause to the problem, after that the possible solutions that can arise through the praxis of the scientific method are analyzed.

• Building a model: You have to adapt the problem to the solution or possible solutions, for this it is very important that we manage to adapt the variables of the problem to the construction of a model, which may mainly be functional if you experiment with the proposal of a mathematical model.

• Deduction of solutions: through the investigation of operations is essential to systematize the solutions under a methodological order, so that when studying and evaluating the solutions to the problem, they are organized and have an order where their deduction facilitates understanding and monitoring of the different solutions.

• Test of the model and evaluation of the solutions: the solution to the problem can be unique or diverse, that is why when evaluating it is important to test the model to prove its functionality in the ability to solve the real problems of industries or where The problem or problems are present.

• Execution and Control of the solutions: once found the good operation of the applied model, it is necessary a strict control in the execution of the model, all with the interest of not losing control in the management of the operations that are governed by the model applied.

We can analyze that the operational research uses the scientific method to the same problem found in its path several sciences and technologies to find the solutions in the most optimized way.

Conclusions

Every industrial process requires a systematic way of optimization, operational research as an academic and scientific discipline gives us the opportunity to learn its application methodology through its linear programming methods and mathematical models the way to maximize profits and solve real problems that arise In industries, operations research is an appropriate way to combine science and industrial applicability with the real operational aspects of an industry, where processes sometimes require knowledge such as those of operations research.
