Biology- Blood group

How much knowledge we have about blood group. May be we know about four types of blood group. And they are ---A, B, AB & O groups.

But, today I will tell you some details about this topic.

The chief blood groups are-- ABO blood groups , Rh blood groups, M & N blood groups and others are-- Lutheran, Lewis , Kell, Kidd, Duffy, Diego, Dombrock, Colton, Ii, P, Xg, Yt
ABO blood group: based on the presence or absence of group specific antigen in the RBC membrane.
Rh blood group: based on the presence or absence of Rh antigen in the RBC membrane.
M & N blood groups: used to determine paternity

Classical blood groups: ABO blood group system is called classical blood group. In classical blood group system, blood is divided into A, B, AB & O groups.

ABO blood group is called classical blood group, because –

• It is the one of the principal blood groups.
• It maintains both 1st & 2nd part of Landsteiner’s law
• Hazards of mismatched blood transfusion in ABO incompatibility is most severe & appears quickly.
