NASA create robopons to study Mars
Before you equip a full mission to Mars, which dream of many fans of space travel, you need to conduct exploration on the ground. This is quite successfully cope with numerous reconnaissance vehicles, but employees of the American aerospace Agency NASA plan to use for the above purposes something more interesting. Namely, unusual robots bees, which the developers called "marcopoli".
According to one of the representatives of NASA Chang Kwon Kang, the robots they develop will be the size of earth bumblebees, and they, according to the project, will be able to fly on wings like cicadas. Delivered "marcopoli" on the Red planet with one of the Rovers, which will be recharged during a mission. The wingspan of five centimeters will allow robots not only to reach hard-to-reach places, but also to hang in the air to fix the environment. The robots themselves will be equipped with various sensors for analyzing the atmosphere, soil, as well as photo or video recording. "Marcopoli" will load information into the Rover, and that, in turn, will forward them to the Ground.
In their research NASA employees will cooperate with leading Japanese engineers who have experience in creating miniature terrestrial robots. Together, experts want to ensure that the design of robots was as simple as possible and at the same time reliable. In fact, the desire to create a "marcopol" there is no accident. The fact is that the pressure in the atmosphere of Mars is several dozen times smaller than the earth, which means large aircraft such as drones and small helicopters will be poorly adapted to the conditions of the red planet. And the smaller the aircraft – the more confident he will feel during the flight.
