Which Is Worse For Your Health- Marijuana or Alcohol (PT 1)
It is a tough call, but based on analysis by SCIENCE There is a win. There are factors to be considered including how much it affects your heart, brain and behaviour and how likely you are to get hooked up with it.
Time is also important too while some of the effects are noticeable immediately, others only begin to shape up after some months or years.
The comparison is slightly unfair for another reason, while scientist have been researching the effects of alcohol for decades the science of cannabis is a lot murkier due to its illegal status.
- Marijuana is significantly less addictive than Alchol
Atleast close to half of all the adults have tried marijuana atleast once making it one of the widely used illegal drug. Yet the research suggest that a relatively small percentage of people become addicted compared to Alcohol.
2.Marijuana maybe harder on your heart while Moderate Drinking could be beneficial.
Unlike alcohol which slows down your heart rate, marijuana speeds your heart rate which could have a negative short term effects on your heart
On the other hand low moderate drinking of about a glass once a day has been linked with a lower risk of heart attack and stroke when compared to total Abstention. - Alcohol is strongly linked to several types of cancer; marijuana is not
A group of Us top cancer doctors in Nov 2017 issued a statement asking people to drink less. They cited a strong evidence that drinking alcohol as little as a glass of wine or a bottle of beer per day increase a risk of developing both pre and postmenopausal beast cancer
For marijuana some evidence were intially suggested a link between smoking and lung cancer but this has been debunked.
Report in Jan found out that cannabis is not connnected to any increased of the lung cancer or head or neck cancers tied to smoking cigarette. - 30,722 Americans died from Alcohol induced causes in 2014 But there have been 0 documented from marijuana use alone
Towards the end of last year 30,000 people died in the the United States alone and that counting does not involve drinking related accidents or homicides. If those were counted the number would be closer to 90,000 according to the CDC
The 11 year old study shows that of more than 65,000 Americans found that healthy marijuana users were not likely to die of an early death than the healthy men and women who did not use cannabis.
