Scientific Name: Tectona grandis Linn
Tagalog Name: Tekla
Visayan Name: Dalanang

The Teak tree is well known for its
durable wood which has great commercial value.It is a large deciduous tree with its leaf size
ranging from 30 to 60 cm long and 15 to 30 cm
broad. A single leaf could replace a large
straw hat. The elliptic or obovate leaves have
a rough upper surface and the lower surface is
covered with veins and vein lets. The white
flowers which are not attractive are found in
clusters at the terminal ends of the branches.
The fruit is sub globosely and four-lobed with
dense stellate hairs.

MEDICINAL USE:
1)For anuria which is the absence of urine
excretion from the body.

2)Bronchitis and congestion of the liver.

3)As a laxative, for piles, leucoderma,
dysentery, headache, burning pain over the
region of the liver; expels worms from the
body; is an expectorant; cures inflamed
eyelids, inflammatory swellings, indigestion,
discomfort or pain with burning in the stomach;
and removes itchiness of the skin.

4)Promotes growth of hair and is useful in
checking scabies.

5)Promotes the flow of urine.

HOW TO USE:

1)The decoction of the root is given in
anuria.

2)The infusion of the flowers is given to
take care of bronchitis and congestion of the
liver.

3)The decoction of the bark will take care of
all the disorders listed in section three of
medicinal use.

4)The oil from the flowers and seeds will
promote growth of hair and is useful in
checking scabies.

5)The flowers and the seeds are diuretic, or
they promote the flow of urine.

The root, flowers, bark and seeds.
DOSE:
Normal or as indicated above.
