In Near Future Robots Will Help Farmers to Pick Fruits and Vegetables

in #science7 years ago (edited)

Robots can do task like seeding and weeding that helps farmers and decreases the working load of farmer. In countries where there are farmers who are paid for their labor and do not own farms this is an alarming condition.

There are robots which can do the work of multiple farmers and can even pick strawberries. These robots not only harvest apples but they can also attack weeds. In some states of the U.S.A like California which produce half of the countries agriculture products there is shortage of labor. There is shortage because federal government has thrown those immigrants out of the country which were staying illegally in the country.

These autonomous vehicle robots are even better than the conventional machinery which was not able to do the planting jobs in harsh environmental conditions. Another benefit of robots is less wastage of food that is not possible in case of humans.

I have seen that before - or the idea of it anyway. I wonder how they get the apples off without damaging them? Metal fingers are not like human hands.

Robotics researchers say they are designing technologies that will specifically help farmers, even if the internet and mobile phones do not help them.Robotics Research Center at the University of Sydney has been conducting trials of agricultural robots for some time. They said the technology could be used commercially for farmers in the next few years. Nice @danyalqureshi

This will be a great achievement in the farming world around the globe

But wouldn't that mean more people out of employment, especially if implemented in developing economies where a majority are dependant on agriculture, yes it will reduce losses along the agricultural supply chain but on the other hand increase unemployment, to some extent it's good, to another not so good

Automation may have effects on employment but consider the benefits, production of higher quality produce, more yield, efficient farm management, weeding, and consequently food security and better nutrition. One of the major problems of agriculture in developing nations is that subsistence agriculture is still largely practiced and there is little mechanization. I really think that automation would be highly beneficial.
