A Trip to Science City - Fostering the Love of Science in Kids (and Adults!)

There is an awesome family destination that should not be missed if you have kids and are visiting Kansas City.

Science City is full of science adventure for the young (and the young at heart).

That might sound like a cheesy commercial, but let me tell you, even a non-sciency type like me enjoys this place!

There are so many experiments, displays, and activities.

And in our country, where science literacy is falling at an alarming rate, getting our kids to fall in love with science is a necessity.

And really, who wouldn't fall in love with some of these activities?

On Friday, my 11-year-old went with her class for a day-long trip to Science City.

She enjoyed herself immensely and her teacher sent me a couple of pictures, along with the following email:

So, Emily has encountered a few bumps through the day. She said she’s okay, but she got hit in the mouth and has a bump and hit her head........ we are currently icing her entire body.
I’ll keep an eye on her head.

Did I mention that my child is the most accident-prone kid I have ever known?!

Fostering a love of science has come naturally to us as we homeschooled her from Kindergarten through 4th grade. However, when she entered public school for the first time this year, I was rather blown away by her test scores. She scored at an 11th grade level and she's in fifth!

We continue to encourage science - for Christmas she will receive a high school level microscope, prepared slides, and some other science-oriented gifts. I can't wait for her to open her presents up!
