Nobel Prize for Physics goes to...

in #science7 years ago (edited)

Rainer Weiss (Germany) Barry Berish and Kip Thorn (America) received the Nobel Prize for Physics for a decisive contribution to a discovery that shook the world.
This is the observation of gravitational waves predicted by Albert Einstein 100 years ago.
Rainer Weiss receives half the prize, and the Americans share the other half.

"This is something completely new and different, unveiling unseen worlds," said Yoran Hansen, general secretary of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences, announcing the laureates.

"An abundance of discoveries await those who manage to capture the waves and interpret their message"

Dr. Lausena Gomez says about the other worlds "If there are other dimensions in our universe, it will stretch or shrink space and time in a different way that standard gravitational waves can’t."

But an extra dimension could add another way of spreading space. It is called "breathing" mode. In the same way that lungs expand when we breathe, gravitational waves expand and collapse in space.

Very good invention by the winners.
